In comparison to our German cousins, the UK has been rather slow to embrace the power of the sun, with current solar generation being half that of the German figure.

Some may argue that the UK is better positioned to take advantage of tidal or wind renewables, but theres always been an arguement to say why restrict ourselves when the sun is such a viable option.

The Blackfriars Bridge solar project which began this week, is set to provide 50% of the power required for Blackfriars Station. With its high visibility in the centre of London, observers hope it will help raise public awareness of solar and the potential that anyone can look to harness.

In other news this week, Sir Norman Foster has revealed plans for a new project, The Thames Transport Hub, which integrates both a mass transport solution as well as a revision to the Thames Barrier.
